Product Photos and Videos for TikTok Shop

TikTok is a vertical video feed first and a shop second. Products that sell there are shown in motion, at 9:16, with the product large and the message inside the first second. These templates are built for that: short product clips and vertical stills that hold up in the For You feed.

Product imagery that works on TikTok Shop

TikTok's own advertising specifications describe 9:16 vertical video as the recommended format, with minimum resolutions rather than fixed sizes; the 1080 × 1920 figure everyone repeats is a sensible convention (9:16 at 1080p) rather than a documented requirement. What the platform does not publish is a text safe zone — the areas covered by the caption, the buttons and the shop card — so keep the product centred and any on-image text in the middle band, and check a real post before committing a template to your whole catalogue.

The format rewards motion because the feed is motion. A can dropping into water, a slow pour, a bottle turning in light: two seconds of movement built from your product photo will hold attention where a static image is scrolled past. Stills still matter — they are the product-card image in the shop tab and the first frame of a carousel — but for the feed itself, lead with a clip.

The other TikTok-specific pressure is volume. Creators and shops post daily, and a product that appears once disappears. Generating each week's clips and stills from the same product photo keeps output high without a shoot per post, and keeps the product looking identical across every appearance, which is what makes it recognisable.

What to watch

  • 01

Lead with motion, not a still

Pour, splash, turn, drop. The feed is video; a static product image is the one thing guaranteed to be scrolled past.

  • 02

Keep the product in the middle band

TikTok does not publish a safe zone, but captions, buttons and the shop card cover the bottom and right edges. Centre the product and any text.

  • 03

One photo, a week of posts

Generate several scenes and one or two clips from the same product photo, then post one a day. Volume without a shoot.

Questions

What video size does TikTok recommend for products?
TikTok's ads specifications recommend 9:16 vertical video and publish minimum resolutions rather than a single fixed size. 1080 × 1920 is the common convention for 9:16 at 1080p but is not a TikTok-documented requirement.
Is there an official TikTok text safe zone?
Not that we could find in TikTok's documentation. Captions, buttons and the shop card cover the bottom and right edges of a post, so keep the product and any on-image text in the centre band and check a real post before scaling up.
Can I make TikTok product videos from a single photo?
Yes. Video templates animate a still product photo into a short clip — a pour, a splash, a rotation — with the product's packaging preserved. It is the fastest way to publish motion daily.
Does TikTok Shop allow AI-generated product images?
We could not find an official TikTok Shop policy addressing AI-generated product images, so we do not state one. Check the current seller policies in Seller Center and, if in doubt, disclose.
