JPEG, PNG, WebP, HEIC, GIF, BMP, AVIF · any number of files · processed on your device, never uploaded
WebP delivers the same visual quality as JPEG at roughly 25–35% smaller files, and it supports transparency like PNG at a fraction of the size. Every current browser renders it. For a store you host yourself — WooCommerce, a custom site, a landing page builder — converting product images to WebP is the cheapest page-speed win available.
Marketplaces are the exception: Amazon, TikTok Shop and Etsy still want JPEG or PNG, so keep those masters and use WebP for your own pages. This tool converts a batch in the browser at the quality you choose.
How it works
- 01
Drop JPG or PNG files
Batch the whole catalogue. HEIC is converted on the way in.
- 02
Set the quality
80 by default. Add a max file size if your theme enforces one.
- 03
Download WebP files
Individually or as a zip, with the original filenames.
Quality settings that work
Quality 80 is the usual production setting: visually identical to a quality-90 JPEG at about half the size. Use 85–90 for hero images and zoom views, 70–75 for thumbnails. Transparent PNGs convert to lossy WebP with alpha, which is typically 5–10× smaller than the PNG.
Where WebP is and is not accepted
Shopify accepts WebP uploads and also serves WebP automatically from JPEG masters, so conversion is optional there. Amazon, TikTok Shop and Etsy reject it. Email clients are mixed — keep JPEG for newsletters. Pinterest and Instagram accept WebP but re-encode everything anyway.
Questions
- Does Safari support WebP?
- Yes, since Safari 14 (2020). All current browsers display WebP.
- Should I upload WebP to Shopify?
- You can, but Shopify already serves WebP from JPEG masters. Uploading JPEG at 2048 px is simpler and lets Shopify pick the format per browser.
- Is WebP lossless?
- This tool writes lossy WebP, which is what photos need. Lossless WebP exists for graphics but is rarely smaller than a well-made PNG.
- Are files uploaded?
- No — conversion runs in your browser.
