JPEG, PNG, WebP, HEIC, GIF, BMP, AVIF · any number of files · processed on your device, never uploaded

JPEGs are stripped byte-for-byte (no recompression). PNG, WebP and HEIC are re-encoded at quality 95, which drops their metadata. Photos whose orientation depends on an EXIF flag are re-encoded upright so they do not display sideways.

Every phone photo carries EXIF metadata: the device, the exact time, often the GPS coordinates of your studio or home, and the software used to edit it. Marketplaces and social networks strip most of it on upload, but your own store, email attachments, press kits and files shared with suppliers do not. For a home-based seller, a GPS tag on a product photo is a home address.

This tool reads the metadata in a JPEG and shows you the parts that matter, then removes the EXIF, XMP, IPTC and comment segments byte-for-byte — the image data is untouched, so there is no recompression and no quality loss. PNG, WebP and HEIC inputs are re-encoded instead, which drops their metadata as a side effect.

How it works

  1. 01

    Drop photos

JPEGs are stripped losslessly; other formats are re-encoded without metadata.

  2. 02

    Review the report

Camera make and model, capture date, GPS presence and editing software are listed per file.

  3. 03

    Download clean copies

Same pixels, same filename, no metadata.

What is removed and what is kept

Removed: APP1 Exif (camera, lens, date, GPS, thumbnail), APP1 XMP (editing history, ratings, keywords), APP13 IPTC (captions, credits) and COM comments. Kept: the JFIF header, the ICC colour profile (so colours do not shift) and Adobe's APP14 marker where present, which decoders need to interpret colour correctly.

Orientation

Some phones store the photo sideways and rely on the EXIF orientation flag to rotate it. Stripping that flag would make the photo display rotated. The tool detects this case and, for those files only, re-encodes the image upright at high quality instead of stripping losslessly — and tells you it did.

Questions

Does removing EXIF reduce image quality?
Not for JPEGs — the metadata segments are removed and the compressed image data is copied unchanged. The file simply gets smaller.
Does Amazon or Etsy keep my GPS data?
Major marketplaces strip metadata when they process uploads, but it is safer to remove it before the file leaves your device, especially for photos you also email or host yourself.
Can I see the exact GPS coordinates?
The tool reports whether a GPS block is present rather than plotting it; the point is to remove it before the photo goes out.
Is the photo uploaded to read the metadata?
No. The file is parsed in your browser.
